Nothing of intelligence to discuss: life is currently full of reading the Cherry Orchard, A Margarite of America, medieval renaissance history, and critical works on Marlowe. I've already decided that once my exams are all done, I will spend at least two solid weeks reading total SCHLOCK. Well, my idea of schlock. Which so far looks like various YA, James Alan Gardner, Lynn Flewelling, and maybe Patricia McKillip if I get back some brain sooner than anticipated.

The other day, I saw a lady walking her dog. There are, of course, no end of ladies and men walking their dogs in the neighbourhood; I might have seen her before when her dog-walking looked like everyone else's and done nothing more than step aside. This is one of the smallest dogs, however, a true Woofet*, smaller than a toy poodle, moving in fast teeny steps, head up and eyes all bright. She first caught my notice because of her odd idea of a leash; it was a light scarf. It wasn't attached to the collar, either, but looped aorund the dog's abdomen; which perhaps explains why it was a scarf in the first place, as it could spread around the pressure. I thought this odd, especially as, when the dog scurried to the side of a fence to sniff at the messages, this lifted its back legs almost 6 inches off the ground.

Then I realised its hind legs never touched the ground at all, but most of the time, hovered just an inch above.

According to the owner, the dog had lost use of its hind legs only a couple of months before, "but still loved his walks".

I've seen tripods before, but this was something rather new to me. It's a thoroughly cute woofet.

Technically I have my university gym membership until May 14th. Am I wasting it if I stop going once classes are done? They've changed the schedule, but there are still evening sessions, and I don't know what I'll be doing work-wise.

*Family term: A very small woof. Mom also calls the really small fast moving ones "twinkle-paws".

Love the scarf harness. Friends of ours had a basset hound whose back legs became paralyzed, and they got him one of those wheeled contraptions. He had trouble cornering but other than that it worked pretty well.

Oh, that's mild. All my t-shirts that I bought here in Japan have weird weird English... sometimes it makes sense but just says totally out of context nonsense...

The milk carton reads, 'The Original Taste of Milk.'

So, what, the stuff you sold before wasn't the original taste or something?

I've seen a fair amount of funny use of English by Japanese sources, including some truly surreal meaningless ones. This one just made me giggle.
