I mentioned in my "men" post that I was thinking that the third Serpent Prince book might be narrated by a female character, because then i knew where and how to begin.
This was a nebulous where and how, as i knew what the scene would be, not exactly how it would go or what she would say.
Somewhere in the last week, the actual opening lines started to coagulate (Which i guess means she's got the voice) and since I haven't got my thumb drive on hand, i figured I'd leave it out in the open for everyone to snicker at. No idea what it would be called. I'm unfortunately sure that I'd be cheating if the word dragon does NOT appear in the title.
I don't know, these books seem to want me to write out of order. But I've sworn I won't write any more than this snippet until the two Ketan narrates are done.

I woke sheltered from the winter beneath a dragon's wing, and wrapped in the arms of my husband - a man I barely knew.
Neither of these things were cause for much astonishment, though I can't say either is precisely usual.
Two things did astonish me, so much that I'd fallen asleep thinking on them and woke still thinking, as if nothing at all had happened between.
First, the dragon liked me. He'd decided he would like me before we even met, though so far I'd done nothing to change his mind. I had believed all dragons were under my stepmother's full sway, and to learn there was even one exception, and that the one exception was as fervent as this, gave me unwarranted hope. Unwarranted because he was still alone against all the rest.
The second astonishing thing was that my husband had become king of entirely the wrong country.
_______________
I think from there the narrator chooses to leap into the morning's action, rather than to explain the last remark, to it gets sketched out while they go about their, ah, business.
What I mostly like is that I can already tell she's going to have a lighter voice. Ketan is wry more than anything when he's trying for humour.
