Yes, I accomplished no writing on the 6th. OTOH, between yesterday and today I've finished cleaning the kitchen, and managed to put down a long line of bricks between the garden and the gravel path, which have been trying to edge into each other (Once again, for the record, I hate lily-of-the-valley roots. OTOH, they're one of the few parts of the garden not devastated in the course of air-conditioner installation, o'erhasty and incautious transplanting, and two months of virtually no rain -- though I admit, the last week rather made up for that final point.)

Progress notes for August 7, 2006:

Raising the Storm

New Words: 190.
Reason for stopping: Let myself get distracted by about five different things. Followed them all instead of buckling back to work
Tea: The last of the Nutcracker Sweet, followed rather later by Chocolate milk with very little of the chocolate part.
Music: Madrigaia - Pleaides
Can't stop fidgeting: Also rewrote a significant chunk of the scene by scene summary.
Inevitable asides: I finally collected enough of the good stuff I'd been wanting to burn the CD of weird and/or cool cover tunes. This is the track list as it stands. The list of songs I didn't take but considered is just as long. (Names in brackets are the original performers)

Tori Amos - Smells like Teen Spirit (Nirvana)
Ewan Macgregor, Jose Feliciano, Jacek Koman - El Tango de Roxanne (Which is only half cover, but what the hell) (as above/The Police)
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (L. Cohen)
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan)
Boiled in Lead - Rasputin (Boney M)
David Bowie And Massive Attack - Nature Boy (Nat King Cole)
Richard Thompson - Willie and the Hand Jive / Not Fade Away (Johnny Otis/Buddy Holly)
Five Blind Boys of Alabama - Dimming of the Day (Richard Thompson)
June Tabor - Out of Winter / Waltzing's for Dreamers (Mark Emerson/Richard Thompson)
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold (Sting)
Luka Bloom - I Need Love (LL Cool J)
Maddy Prior and the Girls - I Need You to Turn To (Elton John)
Steeleye Span - Rave On (Buddy Holly)
Richard Thompson - Oops! I did it Again (Britney Spears)
R.E.M. - Wall of Death (Richard Thompson)
The Duhks - Everybody Knows (L. Cohen)
Oysterband - Love Vigilantes (as below, a third choice for this band, but not a bad one.) (New Order)
Tori Amos - This Old Man (Which is technically trad., not cover, but I just couldn't resist it as a closer.)

Yes, I know Richard is disproportionately represented on both sides of the equation. Had I noticed ahead of time, I'd have put the Emmylou Harris cover of Jimi Hendrix back in (It was the last one cut), but I'm not sure exactly which one would go. Probably Wall of Death, as it's the least altered from the original (Which says a lot about how different the other two are.)

And I'd have rathered Oysterband's rendition of White Rabbit or Mississippi Summer (Which I only have, respectively, on DVD and Cassette).

I keep thinking it should have a companion CD, of songs some people think are traditional, and which certainly ought to be, but aren't. (I suspect one of just cool traditionals would be too easy. And too numerous.)
