Apr. 5th, 2006 01:12 pmHmm. I'm used to living my internet life in the open. I know I'm doing it. And I know the risks. I don't talk about things that I would be horrified to have thrown back at me some years from now. I've put my foot in my mouth here and elsewhere, sure, and anyone going through the Rumor Mill archives could probably find fodder enough to make me blush (There was that whole mock-arranged-marriage thing...). But embarrassment and foot-in-mouth ain't the same thing as the kind of horror I mean.
However, there are risks involved in this, as we all know. And I know that any posts I really care about I ought to save elsewhere. However, a friend of a friend just got his journal completely hacked and stolen from under him. The person to whom it's happening is acting fairly cool about it, since the only private information he's posted is, like mine, pretty much available to the public.
I know I'm effectively nobody; not particularly important or "popular" (as LJ ranks it, based on how often you're read and friended). So far, that's another reason I'm willing to be so open - I have no reason to be a target.
Still, I'm going to repeat. The two people not on LJ who read this regularly: make an account. If only to friend me so you can read if I decide one day that locking down parts of this is important.
Mom, this means you.
