lenora_rose(I am not at the University at this moment. I am at home. I just looked at some things I had printed at the University. So this is a belated rant.)
Hate the newest version of Word. Hate hate hate. More than all the previous versions of Word combined.
For one thing, telling it you want a thing left-justified no longer seems to remove full justification. And going through all their formatting screens you can find and unchecking everything that seems remotely related doesn't help. (Neither does turning off widow and orphan control for an entire file seem to help if you add even one page's worth more text to the file; on that new page, it tried to use widow/orphan control.)
I can't find *anything*. It took several minutes of searching to track down the autocorrect options and kill them. Then the next time I couldn't find them at all.
I'm *Good* at finding random controls in programs that do what I want. Even in every version of Word up to this new one, where they were often far from intuitive. This is so unintuitive it's out in the other side of the universe. I have to think like a completely insane moron who's enver tried to write a thing in plain text to even halfway parse the potential logic in burying some of the controls under five layers of clicking.
And it frequently seems to undo formatting tweaks from files made in older versions of Word. So you *have to* go looking.
The reason I'm using it? It's all the University has. If I had to use it at home, for my regular work, I'd kill my computer. Thank god the Brontesaurus *is* a dinosaur. I'll gladly sacrifice the inability to watch embedded Youtube videos* for the ability to just sit and type and not spend ages on trying to do basic formatting that then *doesn't work*.
*Embeds don't seem to like to wait for slow computers, and go buggy. The actual youtube page doesn't. I so prefer links...
