... and I find I have nothing new to say on the subject. (I'm hoping once I'm published that my writing speaks for itself -- though it may well say that I am earnest but Clueless.)

On the other hand, I have been attentively reading others on the subject of racism (in and out of SF) for a long time, and many other people have many wise things to say. Or, not so wise, but worthy of discussion.

Elizabeth Bear often has good things to say on this and other isms.

Will Shetterley is a (white, socialist) writer who's had much to say, not only during this week, but throughout the year, on the fact that he feels the real problem isn't racism but classism. I disagree with him a lot, (I think he sometimes misses the ways racism hurt that don't have parallels in classism), but the ways he fumbles often lead to good dialogue. For instance, this post, the comments pointing out where his reasoning goes wrong, are probably much more interesting to read than the post itself. Here, he makes his initial point.

Tobias S. Buckell is a Caribbean-born sf writer who was recently (Pre IBARW) sent a rude e-mail demanding he "prove his credentials". His answer has a lot of class.

This post, by someone whose real world name I don't know, is talking about fanfiction, but it's appropriate for the whole of writing. Or addressing racism, or asking questions, or, indeed, of being clueless, rather than defensive.

Others tend to write good posts on this subject, periodically: [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, for instance, between other intelligent posts on other subjects entirely.
