... Anyone want a Mixed CD of Christmas music?
I made a mistake on the first burn, and there's one track that is, well, just wrong. Not in itself - it's a lovely song - but for the mix. Now, I like mixing up musical styles and surprising people with the next track, but the cognitive dissonance is a little much for me. I meant to put a gospel track between a mid-tempo country folk and a raucous Cajun (British style), and I ended up with a gorgeous but overly soft choral piece instead.
This is the folk/country/gospel mix, as opposed to the Choral and High Folk* one to come. The nineteen tracks break down as follows:
(3) Heather Dale
(2, was meant to be 3) The Blind Boys of Alabama (and guests)
(2) Shawn Colvin
(2) Emmylou Harris
(7 - 4 of which are basically one long piece, being excerpts from a song cycle) Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band
(1) Sarah MacLachlan
(1) Linda Ronstadt
(1, by error) Camerata Nova
* Enya, Garmarna, and Loreena McKennitt. I couldn't think of another catchall that covered those three, yet there is something in the sound that meant they seemed to fit better beside the classical choirs.
(Update: But the Choral, etc, one turned out splendidly.)
