So does this count as Self-destructive?
Nov. 15th, 2005 08:30 pmFinally cashed my last royalty cheque for Illusion of Steel (I have to get to a bank, rather than drop it in a machine, as it's un U.S. funds)
A whole 9.55 Canadian. Yay, me. The crummy exchange rate is part of it, yes, but not all.
I like Illusion of Steel. I like Kanna, even though she's a little weird, as befits a shapeshifting girl disguised as a man. I like having turned a teenager-written trunked novel's worth of melodrama, crappy dialogue, and darn-near slashiness into a workable backstory for a much better fore-story. I liked playing with atypical ghosts and a very strange take on were-wolves.
And I like Roach, and Eggplant Productions, though they be small-press and e-press and oh horrors! I'm reviewing other Jintsu stories mostly because I believe in this editor, and this project, and any interest it may send my way is actually secondary.
But I suck at promotion, and EP is a tiny company. So Illusion barely sells, and almost nobody else has heard of Kanna.
So, I thought about this a while longer, and I sent Roach an e-mail.
Specifically, a query about a story that may be worth her while, but may clash with her written guidelines, as a prelude to sending the thing itself.
And if my novellette gets rejected by too many more pro and semi-pro presses, that may go her way, too.
