A Snow Story

lenora_roseSo I've just got on the bus that takes most of the students to Red River College (and me most of the way to work) when I hear the bus radio come on, and the announcer say, "To all busses going to Red River College, please let your passengers know Red River has cancelled all classes today. All busses are requested to pick up any students at the College and bring them downtown...."
One student gets up, kind of frantic, and asks the driver, "Did I hear that right? Red River College is closed?"
The Driver: "I don't know. I didn't catch it."
Nice to know he's on the job.
When a couple of other passengers confirmed hearing it, she got off anyhow, but I also saw two other girls look up, ask each other "What was that about?" decide it wasn't relevant to them, and keep on chatting.
At which, I felt less sorry for myself. Clueless or not, they're not going to have a good day, and this much snow goes beyond karmic retribution.
(Also, my co-worker called a tanning salon this morning hoping for an appointment, which is crazy enough on a serious deep-snowstorm day, but a girl answered --- though she admitted almost everyone calling her so far was only calling to cancel. Carrie was impressed enough to say that if she ever gets her own business, she knows one person she'll have to hire, since anyone who actually makes the effort to get to job at "a freaking tanning salon" in this weather is one dedicated worker. The little fact that she was going to one in the first place....)
