Tree! (And other stuff)
Dec. 13th, 2005 11:41 amYesterday, the thought of doing almsot anything filled me with dread. I could focus on tv episodes I'd already seen, commentary on said episodes if it was mostly shallow (Thus Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk on "War Stories" rather than the directors or the like on other spots), and on Paint your Wagon, which has enough plot for a movie half the length, and some right repetitious songs.
I got the tree decorated in spite of dizzy spells and very little energy or thinking ability, because what I did seem to have even in the worst of this stupid flu was a kind of hyperfocus. I could concentrate on "Test light, swap light. Test next light. Damn. There's not enough lights available to swap out all the damn blinkies. Next cord." then "Ornament into empty space. ornament into next empty space..." I could look back and see the general effect and whether it's working -- my spatial relations are pretty strong, and can function even when my concentration on more thinky bits is shot. But mostly it was that it's relatively repetitious work. Also, I could sit for a surprising amount of it.
I also decided to hang the "boughs" that used to hang on the apartment balcony down our stairwell, along with the icicle lights and much ribbon. But that was after I'd started to feel enough better to haul those things out. The wreath is sitting aside right now, as I left nothing but some of the heavy ribbon to decorate it with (I'd thrown out a fair chunk of the cheaper outdoor decorations since they got pretty beat up on the balcony), and it doesn't look very nice yet. We'll see if it gets put up at all.
But yesterday the thought of looking at a computer pretty much horrified me, much less doing any real writing. I'm not sure how long I'll last today; the whole reason I felt I couldn't go to work this morning was that the headache was at a level where I was having trouble with light, and the prospect of spending a day under fluorescents staring at a computer just wouldn't wash. The headache's eased back, I admit, but it's not gone.
Colin, of course, is about where I was yesterday, though he hasn't, as far as I know, had the vertigo.
