Basic Writing Argh!
Nov. 3rd, 2011 12:29 amSo, the last while, I've been rewriting some scenes for the new point of view. Which I think did super-well for killing the whole too much walking not enough obvious action, except for one sequence, where I think I prefer Jes's version, but it does complicate my life when it comes to how to convey some really basic information to the reader (By really basic, I mean "hey, these people weren't around 5 minutes ago, how did they get there?").
Over the weekend, I got to the end of the stuff I'd had written from any pooint of view before, and got to get into the really truly fresh stuff again.
Tonight, I am triumphant and have reached the scene or scenes which probably end this book. If I had to guess, I'd say this puts me 5K from the end, but there may be enough fallout/denouement to stretch that as much as twice as long. I hope not.
Thing is, the first way I envisioned the scene going is the one way it won't. That I figured out a couple of days ago, before I even got there. Which is cool; it's happened to me too often for me to to be phased when I look at my set-up and my characters and go, "Plan A won't work. the protagonist won't let it." It usually turns out for the best.
But it does leave me needing to decide which of several other ways it could go instead. And the implications.
Virtually every path the change opens up means I could combine books three and four (Or as many ideas as I have for book four), and tighten the whole thing. Which is good.
Some require me to completely throw out the pieces of books three and four I have written because Ketan's relationship with at least one extant character will change so drastically. I'm trying not to let this influence me too much, because it's a lazy excuse.
Anyhow, I have no definite answers yet, so this is an argh, but it seems like it could be fun to figure out, so not a big argh. Time to sleep on it.

In other arghs, late last week, EI did its part and got me the access stuff I needed to look at my ROE. And in spite of what the first two people I spoke to at my work's payroll office said should be the case, no ROE was present. The third said he was surprised they thought it would be there that fast, but it should be there by early this week. As of today, no ROE. At this rate, it will show up faster by mail.
You know, I just want maternity leave. It's not that hard, is it? And this is NOT going to be fun to resolve, no matter what.
