So Iulianna invited me to go with her to the pool today, as she's feeling a need to get back into shape. And it turned into a kind of Crazy Serendipity day.

We got to the pool, and found out it was their 80th anniversary, so it was a free swim. (The first sign of this was the bouncing castle in their parking lot, and a fair bit of bright happy sidewalk chalk.)

The swim means my back feels the best it has in a week or two, even now; we were in somewhere between an hour and an hour and a half. Spent much but not all the time swimming or treading or floating. A little bit throwing a ball, and mostly brief rests (Until the very last bit) where I bothered to go where I could touch bottom.

For her part, she had a great time getting back into a sport she's always been very good at, and seemed to similarly feel better. She also saved a drowning girl the lifeguards hadn't even noticed.

Then, when we went wandering in search of a place for a drink and snack afterwards, we found a cafe that's officially opening Tuesday. So today, as a promo, they were serving free food and drinks... so we had small samples of desserts and split a nan bread pizza. Good food. No clue what the prices will be like, but it was a quirky, artsy atmosphere, with bright painted walls, a mix of local artists' paintings, a small trading library ("If you take a book, leave a book"), some tables, some booths, some couches, and two hammocks.

She ended up walking all the way home with me, and hanging out until dinner, then watching football with my F-i-L afterward. (I had no idea she was a football fan, but she says it's the only sport she likes watching.)

Anyhow, weirdly fun, even the football game, which was frustratingly close and full of memorable plays, which meant even I was interested.

House renos have hit the point where the power is out in the downstairs bathroom and most of the kitchen (The lights, including the nearest hall light, and the oven/stove), and some things that do have power (The microwave and the fridge) have been plugged in to an extension cord to an outlet across the house. Yay, fun.

That's quite the off-hand comment there.

But yes. Swimming. It is awesome.

Iulianna didn't used to do synchro, did she?

It was a hell of a moment in the real world. Until she was moving, I hadn't seen anything either, well, not that would register (I've heard the whole "Drowning doesn't look like you think it does" thing, but I'd never seen someone in actual distress). But she says keeping an eye out is an instinct she won't lose.

No, I don't think she did; she did the serious training for a while, and she used to volunteer and teach kids.

Me, I just paddle about. Which is plenty fun enough.
