Jul. 4th, 2011 10:46 pmFolk Fest is rushing on in, after a week that was socially very busy (Several general get-togethers, Canada Day stuff, though we only puttered a but in Osborne village and skipped on fireworks, plus the usual two RPGs, one of which finished today.) Wednesday night I'll watch the Mainstage, or at least some of it, and go home for work the next day. Thursday I set up camp. My first shift is Thursday night 11:30PM-5:00 AM. The other two shifts are significantly less insane, though.
I don't expect to be doing as much dancing. Though I did get a Baby belt, which supports the belly and slows down the hideous backache that walking has often produced. Love it already, after a couple of test runs. Though the weather has been evil enough to make we resent even that small amount of extra fabric. Hot & humid - the thunderstorm today cooled things but made them even more humid, which wasn't much of an improvement. (I wouldn't mind the heat if it weren't so wet. This remains a soaking wet year. it's been amazing that I needed to water the plants in the one seriously worked-on garden patch, but I did, and almost too late for at least one plant.)
Mostly,, Looking forward to Festival is good stuff, and I know I'll be joyous on site. But I anticipate introvert burnout by Sunday. Introvert burnout is when you just need alone time, or you will snark and hate everyone, or become convinced everyone hates you. In some ways, the atmosphere at Folk Fest itself keeps the symptoms from showing until you stop or go home. And really, it's possible to be alone in the middle of the crowd, if you're just sitting on your own for a workshop or two. Nonetheless, Monday after the festival is usually "collapse in a brainless heap that doesn't want to talk to ***anyone***, no matter how much I was loving festival until then".
This will definitely be the case, but it's also Ultrasound day. That I think I can do, somehow...
Wednesday after Folk Fest is day one of the Fringe, though. I *really* wish that gap were longer, and have for years. At least the Fringe is something you can choose to do in slightly smaller bunches, and alternate with other things. Folk Fest, at least if you're camping, is kind of 24/5.
Writing continues apace - a slow pace, but present.
Also been practicing with the octave mandolin in hopes I can produce at least a little technique before the festival. Or at least some callusses.
Anyhow, the last socially busy stretch is why I've not been online. It gets crazier from here.
