Well, the world is going crazy, and it's doing it right when I decided to take a social media hiatus. (Which I have not wholly succeeded at, but coming here and trying to revive this is an attempt to avoid too much of that.
So... Winnipeg isn't that badly hit yet, but is doing what it can to not *be* hit. Honestly, my biggest worry is that most of the close-downs I have seen are fairly short term, and I am worried that the sudden explosion of activity afterwards will be too soon and result in just the issue it's supposed to stop.
The school closes at the end of the week for (at least) three weeks, trying to balance needing to get people home with giving teachers and parents time to plan. One of our kids has a common cold and is home already. Planning for at least 3 weeks of kid lessons at home is going to be quite the thing. Right now I am kinda thinking about how to alternate free play and lessons and not depend too much on videos/tv as passive entertainment -- and STILL have some time for myself.
Colin can do much of his job from home, and is suffering the same cold, so he's getting an advance test of that fact. So while he will be here, I rather need to not depend on him for more than short stints during working hours.
The clay studio is closing for the nonce, even though it's a place which generally has only 4-5 people in it at a time, spread over 2 floors; but it would be hard to disinfect it, cleaning is directed towards getting clay out of the air and shared tools/workspaces useable for the next person, and avoiding silicosis, not avoiding viruses. Disinfectant might in fact be quite bad to use on the canvas of the tables too often. So B. and I need to head there and pack up some projects we can do at home.
I am trying to set myself new goals based on music, pottery, household tasks, and more project and activities for the kids. J. is doing piano lessons -- last one is tonight -- so at least one ongoing project for her is easy to choose; if she ends up with a big leap forward in skill, well, that's good. The biggest fight will be keeping Alex off the piano at the same time! I may mitigate that by starting him on some of the same lessons, or even off her old books.
I also want to show J a certain paper trick if I can get it; she makes paper models of buses of all sorts, and I want to show her how to make an actual accordion fold for the centre.
No conclusions, just whirring plans through the brain.
