This was not a happy day.

This morning I was in the kitchen making breakfast. I got into the living room to find Joseph had got hold of a container that holds some of Colin's dice, one I had thought he couldn't get into and therefore hadn't secured.

He had the dice out in front of him and was playing with them. He also had a trail of bile down his shirt and pooled on some of the dice.

As in: He'd attempted to swallow at least one and choked.

As in: if things had gone differently I could have come in to an emergency or worse, a dead child (I don't think i was that long that the latter was a genuine risk, but choking, oh, yes.)

Thing is, the container seemed to have fewer dice than I remembered, after I cleaned him and them up.

The Public Health Nurse on the Healthlinks phone line said that even though he looked and acted fine (He was giggling while I was on the phone because I was teasing him) and there were no concerns about his breathing or coughing or throwing up again, yes, I should take him to Children's hospital to get an x-ray, just in case.

The x-ray appears to show nothing, but they weren't so confident it was conclusive that we don't have to watch him. Nor has he had any obvious abdominal pain. Neither have we, ah, seen any evidence of dice, though I'd be more inclined to expect such in the morning.

But even though I was never in actual panic, I felt worn out all day. Napped with him this afternoon but it didn't help much.

It's back to that fifth paragraph. That alternate ending to the story.
