Dec. 5th, 2012 10:27 pmThe fun of working not always in order.
I failed to finish the short story I intended to finish in November, but it's still on the burner and simmering, and I think as of today it's back up to first place in the queue. There's just this one conversation I was fighting with hard before I press on to the next scenes.
I think the title is Imaginary Colours. It's fanfic, but because of the nature of the story I *almost* think the concept is publishable even without filing off the serial numbers. (Kind of like Elizabeth Bear's Botticelli. Except, you know, not at all like, outside this one respect.) I don't mean to try unless someone with a lot more experience gives me confirmation; more likely I'll put it up here when I feel it can stand to be seen by someone else.
I somehow ended up doing an editing run on the last part of Soldier (I think I was looking up some small detail and while I was there, started typing...) It's still rough, as I had no real intention of doing a full edit, but more scenes are done.
If I didn't have to finish the edits to Serpent - and to this - that change one character's gender entirely (said character was only present for one scene in the segment I was tweaking this time, and that one wouldn't change aside from pronouns) I could talk about pressing on to book three at last.
But, well, I paused in trying to flip gender to get this short story out. Once it's done, I should get back in there.
Meanwhile, I am intending to start on designing a particular project I've had in mind for a while. The first bit involved digging up pictures of Shire horses. Lovely beasts, those. The second (Just for the design work, not for the final) was to finally reload Photoshop onto my computer. We'll see how this ends up.
Hmm. In the process of that last paragraph, my keyboard switched to French again. What's weirdest about this is it seems to do so only in Firefox, not on the computer as a whole, so it ain't windows. But it happens often, and I haven't been able to figure out what combination of typo does it. At least I'm getting quite good at remembering where the alternate placements are for the necessary punctuation... especially apostrophes! Buggers are everywhere.
Anyhow, time for bed.
