Let's see. Good things to say about the wedding yesterday.
The ceremony was very nice. The groom was a widower, but this was the bride's first wedding, so aside from the children, it looked much more like a first wedding as regards the pomp and elaborateness.
The bride's dress was gorgeous, she was radiant (She started out as beautiful, which puts her ahead of most of us), the groom was handsome if too solemn, and they both got weepy during their vows -- which is uncharacteristic of him, as he tends not to show the softer feeligns much. His daughter was stunning (Ahead of time, there'd been a problem where they'd ordered her the wrong dress size), and the young son was adorable and obedient (Having seen him around the office when bored and restless, and knowign the bride, who is great with him, was probably too busy for child wrangling, this isn't necessarily something they could assume ahead of time.)
The dinner was excellent, the hors d'oeuvres and oyster bar during the cocktails were very enjoyable. There was an unfortunate harpist in the corner of the reception hall who was probably audible only ot the nearest two tables and thus went far too unappreciated for her contributions.
And it was good to hang aorund with some of my co-workers outside standard work.
This would give you the wrong picture, alas.
The bride was 40 minutes late for the ceremony. (Those of us who know the couple, including the brother/best man, were astonished it wasn't the groom running over half an hour behind.)
This meant most people rushed over to the reception for the cocktails in the foyer, only to end up standing, and rapidly running out hor d'oeuvres for almost 3 hours. This translated to a great many people being rather too tipsy prior to the meal, mostly in friendly ways, but one ended up wasted and paranoid and ugh.
Even I had had most of four drinks, which is the most I've had in one night, well, pretty much ever, but I tried to pace them and to eat enough to sober up. And I had nothing but water during the meal.
The reception line took over half an hour more, and they did the first dance before the food, so it was a good while after we got to sit at last before the food showed; and the courses dawdled, with an ice course after the salad when people were getting seperate for real food. I'd been hoping for the dancing, so by that time I had enough restless energy to annoy my table by beating up on the star-shaped chunk of water ice the flavoured ice had been served in.
We left just after dessert -- at almost 11:00 PM -- and after several co-workers, those who had to work in the morning particularly.
Anyhow, I took a nice walk around the quieter and more residential streets in our area after we got home, to make up a bit for not getting any dancing. That was surprisingly pleasant.

Today, after a far too restless and interrupted sleep (The cats were pests, the husband, being somewhat ill, tossed and turned, about which I was less than sympathetic at 7:30, and then my mom chose to phone at 9:30 on my day off. I managed to be friendly, but hung up muttering, "Why does everyone who loves me hate me today?" Now, of course, I feel badly for griping at a sickly Colin.) I got to the University, and I've almost entirely resolved my courses for the year. The professor I couldn't reach by e-mail I reached in person. Alas, I failed to reach the one who'd already agreed via e-mail to letting me into a "full' class, but the administrative assistant was remarkably helpful in setting things up so he could sign in my absence. I sent him a second e-mail apologizing for the missed time anyhow, but, still, whee! I'm in!
I tried the Student Loan system again only after I'd come back home, and ran into trouble again. However, I talked to my brother on the phone tonight, and he told me what to do to get through. So off to try again!
