Stomach trouble TMI.

Well, i guess I've been served well for going through virtually NO morning sickness (Actually, on any of the three pregnancies).

Because the acid reflux I'm getting at this late stage is sometimes a REAL bitch. Often it's a low-grade irritant, sometimes it's all but unendurable. And not necessarily anywhere in the immediate vicinity of meals. I was awake from 3:00 till past 5:00 AM last night... and two Tums and some milk didn't help. (And yes, I did have myself propped up at least a bit.)

DO NOT WANT.

I got that. Had to stop eating at five o'clock so that everything would die just before bedtime. it was horrible. I hope you can get rid of it.

From someone who has chronic reflux

If your doctor okays it, get yourself some Gaviscon. One of the best reflux medicines there is, and it's over the counter. Get the tablets (extra strength, fruit flavour is the best), you crunch them up and then swallow, followed by a small sip of water if wished. They go all foamy in your mouth (a little strange the first time), but the foam, once you swallow it, will form a protective barrier that keeps the acid from coming back up. Prior to needing acid inhibitors (prescription meds), this was what I used all the time. Still use it when I have a really bad attack.

Also, if you're having an attack at night, prop yourself up with a couple of extra pillows so that your shoulders are higher than your hips (I would use up to 5 pillows to get the right amount of incline), and sleep on your left side if you can (the scid drains out of your system to the right side so by sleeping on your left side you're keeping things more in place).

Hope this helps and hope that the reflux ends once little one makes it's appearance. If you're still having problems, let me know and I can give you a list of potential trigger foods that you may have to avoid for a couple of months.

I appreciate the advice.

I don't know if Gaviscon is acceptable, but I can definitely ask this week.

I haven't been propping myself up that much -- I haven't retrieved my extra pillow from the heap of 'Brought back from Gimli" stuff. (All I've done with that, alas, is sort out the laundry.)
